A Look At LibGuides: A FREE CDLC Event

On Thursday, May 7th from 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm at the CDLC Offices, 28 Essex Street, Albany there will be an informal afternoon gathering to discuss the use of Lib Guides in libraries.  It is Sponsored by CDLC’s Regional Automation Advisory Committee.  

It’ll start with an optional pizza lunch at noon followed up by short presentations by:
Jane Bentley of Questar III School Library System,
Tia Felock of Capital Region BOCES School Library System,
Carrie Buff of Schenectady County Community College, and
Caitlin Sheldon of Saratoga Springs Public Library.

From 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., they’ll open the floor up to six member libraries in a round-robin style discussion on how they’re using LibGuides.  These 10 minute spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis so claim your spot when registering!  At 2:30 p.m., they’ll finish up with a general discussion and question session.  This program is open to anyone interested in learning more about LibGuides but is not a hands-on workshop on how to develop them.

There is no cost for this event, which is open to all members of CDLC institutions.

The New York State Library, New York Library Association and the Mid-York Library System are pleased to invite library staff across the State to view the following five ILEAD USA keynote addresses, which will be delivered March 24-26.  The keynote addresses will be live streamed by the University of Illinois Springfield.  All New York State library staff are invited to participate.

The New York State Library, in partnership with the Illinois State Library, the New York Library Association and the Mid-York Library System, is participating in the multi-state nationwide 2015 ILEAD USA (Innovative Librarians Explore, Apply and Discover) program designed to increase the leadership, collaboration and technology skills of library and library system staff from all types of institutions.

ILEAD USA participants work in teams during three sets of onsite multi-day collaboration/learning sessions, supported by mentors and instructors, to address an identified statewide or local community need and develop a product, which is shared via the web.

During the onsite multi-day sessions, ILEAD USA participants will experience, through web streaming, keynote addresses delivered by national leaders both in and related to the library field.

NYS Historic Newspapers Presentation

On Monday, March 30th, 2015 from 1:00 PM until 3:30 PM at the CDLC Offices at 28 Essex Street in Albany, there will be a New York State Historic Newspapers Presentation by Eric Alan, Regional Services Librarian at Northern New York Library Network.

New York State Historic Newspapers is a fantastic resource for all types of libraries. It provides free indexed access to selected historical newspapers from across New York State.  Currently, the site holds over 200 newspapers, with millions of searchable pages!

This event is free and open to all members of CDLC institutions.  Registration is required by Friday, March 27thRegister Here

During this presentation, you’ll learn the history behind the website and become familiar with basic and advanced search strategies, including personal name search methods.  We will also discuss the criteria needed to get your library’s newspapers included in the project, including the possibility of receiving some funding through CDLC to get you started.
