Libraries in Hamilton, Saratoga, Warren and Washington County are participating in Take Your Child to the Library Day on February 1, 2014. Now in it’s third year, this annual event is held nationwide to encourage parents and caregivers to bring children to the library on a regular basis. Library programs are offered free of charge to all children from toddlers to teens. Parents are encouraged to participate as well. Some restrictions may apply, so please contact your library.
Don’t forget to fill out a postcard while you’re there to let the librarians know how much fun you had.
Bancroft Public Library (Salem):
10 am – 1 pm Chess Club. All skill levels are welcome, even beginners. Boards are always available during library hours.
Town of Ballston Community Library:
9:30 am or 11 am. Make a clay date with your family! Make clay, play with it and then take it home with you! This program is for the whole family from preschool through adult. Saturday, February 1. Session 1 at 9:30 AM or Session 2 at 11:00 AM. Please call 399-8174 ext. 2
Cambridge Public Library:
10 am to 12: 30 pm Basket Making for 4th-6th grade with Bliss MacIntosh
Calling all crafty tweens! Here is your chance to construct a reed basket with basketmaker Bliss MacIntosh. Bliss, a local basketmaker whose work is on display at Valley Artisans Gallery and at the Folklife Center at the Crandall Public Library, will be providing two Saturday programs, February 1st and February 8th from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Space is very limited, only 15 students per session so PLEASE call the library at 677-2443 to sign up for this crafty event. Since the event is two and a half hours please bring a snack for your child to enjoy. There is no cost for this program which is sponsored by the Friends of the Cambridge Public Library.
Town of Chester Library:
9 am – 1 pm Chess Club: Bring your chess set and play chess at the library from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays. All ages welcome. FREE LESSONS!
Clifton Park Halfmoon Public Library:
1-3 pm Introduce or rediscover the unlimited possibilities your Library offers for entertainment, learning and fun! Meet a character from a favorite book, play BOOK BINGO (ages 4-8) and more on this day which celebrates children, families and your community library. This is a STOP-IN program for families with children of all ages.
Corinth Free Library:
11 am – 3 pm Make your own bookmark. Materials and ideas will be provided. Board games will also be available. Families are encouraged to stop in and have some fun at the library!
Crandall Public Library:
10 -10:20 am Walking Wonders: For babies just starting to walk
Come enjoy movement activities and interactive rhymes, songs, books, and more. For walking infants under 20 months accompanied by an adult. Story time is followed by a short playtime. No siblings please. Please register at the children’s desk to attend the free program or call 792-6508 x4.
11 – 11:20 am Baby Lap Time For infants under 14 months, not yet walking, accompanied by an adult. No siblings please. Share interactive rhymes, songs and simple board books with the baby in your life.
2 -2:30 pm & 2:30 – 3 pm Hola, Amigos! Spanish Fun Have fun with Spanish language, art, music and movement, and more with Senora Yoly! Free for children ages 5 through 8 years old. Please call or stop in the Children’s Department to sign-up. 792-6508×4

2 – 3 pm Read to Buck: Our Paws4Reading Partners are certified therapy dogs who are happy to sit quietly and listen appreciatively to any story you wish to read. Dates are subject to change. Please call the day of the program to schedule a 10-minute appointment
