I wanted to let everyone know that each library will be receiving a tool kit from the Foundation for Healthy Living’s Center for Best Practices for the Prevention of Early Childhood Overweight and Obesity to promote their Healthy Kids NY Library Week, which is May 4th-10th. The tool kits include posters, bookmarks, and educational materials to help promote healthy living and eating habits for children. I encourage you to display these materials and consider making it a topic for your story time programs during that week.
Healthy Kids NY Library Week was created by the Foundation for Healthy Living’s Center for Best Practices for the Prevention of Early Childhood Overweight and Obesity in partnership with the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council, Capital District YMCA, Mohawk Valley Library System, New York State Dental Association, New York State Dietetic Association, Price Chopper, Southern Adirondack Library System, Upper Hudson Library System, and Your Kids’ Dietitian and Nutritionist. The Center for Best Practices is funded through a grant from the New York State Department of Health with sponsorship support from BlueShield of Northeastern New York. It is working in six counties in the Greater Capital Region to increase awareness about the public health threat of early childhood obesity, and to increase screening and counseling by health care providers. The Foundation for Healthy Living is a tax-exempt public charity organization created by HealthNow New York, Inc. to improve the health of the people living in Upstate New York.
