USCIS Tools and Resources

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invites libraries and museums to participate in a webinar on March 23 from 2-3    p.m. Eastern to learn about USCIS customer service tools and citizenship education resources. Representatives from USCIS will provide an overview of the tools and resources available and will demonstrate how to find and use them online. A question and answer session will follow this presentation. We cannot answer any case-specific inquiries.

Polaris Upgrade March 7-March 8 2017

Beginning at about 9:15 pm on 3/7 and until the upgrade is complete:

  • Polaris as well as all related and dependent products (SIP for self-checks, PAC, Reports, Cassie authentication) will be completely unavailable. 
  • Some features (log in,checkout, download and renewal) for digital resources (OverDrive, cloudLibrary, Freegal, Freading and Zinio) will also be unavailable.   

A Look at Hot Spot Lending

Nearly every library in the United States provides access to the internet for on-site library users, but some libraries are enabling users to take the internet to-go. Come hear about the experiences of two public libraries with their Wi-Fi hotspot lending programs. The speakers will discuss the nuts and bolts of lending Wi-Fi hotspots including: service provider information, data usage, coverage area, circulation procedures, costs, patron response, and future plans. The presenters will share the benefits—and potential pitfalls—of Wi-Fi hotspot circulation applicable to public, school, and academic libraries in the region.
