Ask Us 24/7 is available for everyone living in Hamilton, Saratoga, Warren and Washington County.  Most libraries in our region have a link to the service on their website.
Ask Us 24/7 was recently featured on News Channel 9 in Syracuse! Nancy Howe and Meg Van Patten of Baldwinsville Public Library described the service and promoted its use.   Check out the short news segment to learn more.

STAR Tax Exemption Registration

More than 1.7 million New York homeowners have registered for their Basic STAR property tax exemptions.   The enrollment deadline for claiming the STAR Tax Exemption is December 31, 2013.  More than 900,000 homeowners have yet to register.   The Tax Department is sending multiple mailings and participating in hundreds of local events to ensure  that everyone who is eligible registers and continues to receive the exemption.

Two types of STAR exemptions:

Basic STAR — available for owner-occupied, primary residences where the resident owners’ and their spouses income is less than $500,000 exempts the first $30,000 of the full value of a home from school taxes

Enhanced STAR — provides an increased benefit for the primary residences of senior citizens (age 65 and older) with qualifying incomes exempts the first $64,200 of the full value of a home from school taxes as of 2014-15 school tax bills (up from $63,300 in 2013-14)Continue reading

SALS’ Early Adapter Technology Grant

SALS is proud to announce the 2014 Technology Challenge Grant.  The SALS Board of Trustees recognizes libraries in our region must keep up with change, rethink current library services, incorporate new ideas and utilize and adapt technology to provide library services in your community.

The SALS Board of Trustees will award four grants of $5,000.00.  The grant project must be completed within 2014.

You can find an application and instructions regarding the Technology Challenge Grant here.  All libraries are encouraged to apply.

The deadline for submitting applications to SALS is January 23, 2014.  The SALS Board of Trustees will review applications and announce grant winners after its Feb 18th board meeting.

A completed grant application must include:

  • Community partnership
  • Clear goal
  • Clear and measurable objective(s)
