Artful Connections: Stephanie Haines’ Vision for Inclusive and Inspiring Communities

During this presentation we will learn about the fundamentals of accessibility through the lens of creative arts activities. We will cover what it mean to be accessible, common adaptations you can make to creative tools and materials, and how you can be flexible and inclusive in your approach to planning arts experiences for a diverse community.
Stephanie Haines is the Arts Education & Accessibility Program Manager at the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC). Stephanie oversees the IAC’s arts education research project Partnering Arts, Communities, and Education (PACE) as well as Poetry Out Loud, Indiana State Poet Laureate program, and Creative Aging programming statewide. Stephanie served as chair of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) Arts Education Working Group (AEWG) 2019 – 2020. She is also the agency’s accessibility coordinator handling all ADA compliance procedures and leading an Accessibility in the Arts Advisory Committee. Stephanie earned a Master of Arts degree in arts administration from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in visual art education from the University of Indianapolis. She has more than 15 years of experience working with teaching artists and arts integration programming, with specialties in professional development and artist lesson planning. Stephanie is a visual artist primarily in the mediums of painting and drawing.
