A Conversation with Teens, Parents, Teachers and Caregivers – Rape or Regret?

On Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at 6 PM, there will be a free showing of the video “Rape or Regret? A Jury’s Dilemma” at the Saratoga Film Forum, 320 Broadway, Saratoga Springs. This viewing, facilitated by staff from Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services, is part of the 2014 “Humanitarian Games” program developed by Youth2, which launched on April 1st. During the Games, participating area youth will travel from non-profit to non-profit completing community service requirements.

Celebrate Screen Free Week, May 5-11

for-web_smallerScreen-Free Week (SFW) is an annual, international celebration when child care, schools, families and community groups pledge to spend seven days without entertainment on a screen (TV, Handhelds, Computers)  This is an opportunity to rediscover the joys of life beyond the screen; an opportunity for libraries to fill the gap during these 7 days.

Advocacy Day – Wednesday February 26

All are welcome and encouraged to attend Advocacy Day.  Below are the appointments.

NYLA’s Library Advocacy Day is next Wednesday, February 26th. You are invited to join with fellow library advocates from across New York State in Albany to speak up for libraries and library funding!

Here are some important details about the day from NYLA:

• NYLA ‘Base Camp’ will be available in LOB120 beginning at 8:00 a.m. for packet pick-up and sign-in.

• Members of the Legislature have been invited to LOB120 to have their photographs taken for READ posters between 8:30–3:30. Have you always wanted a READ poster of your very own? Visit LOB120 can have your photo taken and place your order. READ posters are $25 each and pre-orders are required to have your photo taken.

• The Rally for Library Advocates is 2:00 – 3:00. Gather outside of LOB120 @ 2:00 PM to begin our ‘March on the Capital.

Join fellow Library Advocates as we march from the Well into the Capital Building and plan to make your voices heard!

• NEW for 2014: NYLA will host a Legislative Reception at the Albany Hilton from 5:00-6:00. This reception is free and open to all advocates. All members of the NYS Senate and Assembly have been invited to attend.

• The New Yorkers for Better Libraries will host their Annual Gala at the Albany Hilton from 6:00-9:00.
