NYS Historic Newspapers Presentation

On Monday, March 30th, 2015 from 1:00 PM until 3:30 PM at the CDLC Offices at 28 Essex Street in Albany, there will be a New York State Historic Newspapers Presentation by Eric Alan, Regional Services Librarian at Northern New York Library Network.

New York State Historic Newspapers is a fantastic resource for all types of libraries. It provides free indexed access to selected historical newspapers from across New York State.  Currently, the site holds over 200 newspapers, with millions of searchable pages!

This event is free and open to all members of CDLC institutions.  Registration is required by Friday, March 27thRegister Here

During this presentation, you’ll learn the history behind the website and become familiar with basic and advanced search strategies, including personal name search methods.  We will also discuss the criteria needed to get your library’s newspapers included in the project, including the possibility of receiving some funding through CDLC to get you started.
Although it is not required, it is recommend that participants bring a laptop or tablet to follow along.  Due to a limited number of seats, if you register and are unable to attend, please contact Susan D’Entremont at susan@cdlc.org

NYLA Advocacy Day

Library advocates can visit one-on-one with their legislators to inform them of NYLA’s State Budget Priorities for the year.

Advocacy Day Handout: Advocacy materials are distributed to Advocacy Day attendees to use in their meetings with legislators and staff.
Why is it important to travel to Albany to talk with my legislators about library issues?

  • Libraries need you to speak out for them.
  • Libraries need more state money.
  • Legislators need to learn what libraries do for citizens of New York State.

Polaris 5.0 Training for Library Staff

With the upgrade to Polaris 5.0 coming February 10th, there are a few new features to explore. I will be having a training to share these new features with library staff on Thursday, February 5th at 10:00am here in the SALS’s training lab. (The snow date will be February 9th at 10:00am.)

If you cannot make it to SALS, I can set up a GoToMeeting session for you to attend virtually from your own computer. (This training will not be recorded.)

Please contact Jill Ryder by January 30th to let her know if you and your staff are attending.
