Yesterday I received a friendly email from Facebook about making Ads better and giving me more control. I thought aha now I can get rid of those pesky ads that follow me around. But then I stopped, took a breath and read.
There is a great video that I could not share directly here that explains how you can customize Facebook and see only the ads you want to see. Follow this link and watch the video.
Ads Based On Your Use Of Websites Or Apps Off Facebook –
These are the ads that make your skin crawl, knowing that the Internet is watching you. If you shop on line, you can probably expect a sidebar advertisement for the product you just purchased when you log into Facebook.
How this really works: The company’s website uses cookies to record your visit. The company then asks Facebook to show their ad to this list of visitors, and you might see these ads both on and off Facebook.
How can I learn more about how ads work on Facebook?
Learn more about why you see certain ads on Facebook and how you can influence the ads you see on the About Ads page.
You can opt out of ads
If you don’t want Facebook or other participating companies to collect or use information based on your activity on websites, devices, or apps off Facebook for the purpose of showing you ads, you can opt out through the Digital Advertising Alliance.
BUT you have to do this for each device you own and for each browser you use. If you clear your cookies, you are probably back to square one.
Play around with your own account and see what advertisements pop up and why. Right now, there is calm on my Facebook page, how about yours?
