Everyone Loves a Story

Everybody enjoys hearing a good story.  So, why are library story times almost exclusively held for children?  Holding adult story times is a relatively simple and inexpensive programming idea.

Here are a few tips to consider:

  • Start with a lunchtime story hour to attract local business people and seniors
  • Choose a few different types of short stories to start with and see what people enjoy the most
  • Set the mood with dimmed lighting and soft music that compliments the story
  • Use a microphone for those who may be hard of hearing
  • If you are not comfortable reading aloud, contact a  local theater group to find readers
  • Rehearse the stories to perfect the wording and timing
