Everybody enjoys hearing a good story. So, why are library story times almost exclusively held for children? Holding adult story times is a relatively simple and inexpensive programming idea.
Here are a few tips to consider:
- Start with a lunchtime story hour to attract local business people and seniors
- Choose a few different types of short stories to start with and see what people enjoy the most
- Set the mood with dimmed lighting and soft music that compliments the story
- Use a microphone for those who may be hard of hearing
- If you are not comfortable reading aloud, contact a local theater group to find readers
- Rehearse the stories to perfect the wording and timing
