When to Fold ‘Em (Part 2)

The second part of Joan Frye Williams’ presentation was the ability to identify the bad signs in regards to technology.

She said that its a bad sign if you can’t explain how it contributes to improved service. Everyone should be able to explain how it improves services.

Another bad sign is when you can not staff it.

The next few signs are interrelated – the technology can not be expanded, the technology is too old, too new or too complicated.

Technology can be compared to a very old car. It may be time to trade the technology in – if you can not get spare parts or if you can not rely on it to work or start.

Listen to your public – are they complaining about a specific technology? Is there ease of use for all? Don’t confuse adapting to change for ease of use.

Finally is it just too slow?
