Kindle and Overdrive: What you Need to Know

If you have not already heard, Kindle and Overdrive have announced a library lending program for Kindle users.  The program is scheduled to launch at the end of 2011.

Here is how the program will work:

  • The Kindle Library Lending program will integrate into SALON
  • The SALON collection will be available to Kindle users.  As you purchase more eBooks, those titles will also be available to Kindle and Kindle reading apps.
  • SALS libraries will not have to purchase additional copies or formats for the Kindle to be compatible.
  • A user will be able to browse for titles on any desktop or mobile operating system, check out a title with their library card, adn then select Kindle as the delivery destination.  The borrowed title can be enjoyed using any Kindle device and all of the Amazon’s free Kindle reading apps.
  • The Kindle eBook titles borrowed from a library will cary the same rules and policies as all other eBooks.
  • The Kindle Library Lending program will support publishers’ existing lending policies
