Thanks to a generous grant from the SALS Board, I was able to attend “Bring on the Joy, Bring on the Books,†the 32nd Annual Spring Conference of the Youth Services Section of the New York Library Association, which was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, NY. It did, indeed, bring on the joy, from the kickoff with humor columnist Jerry Zezima to Saturday’s breakfast with author Libba Bray.Continue reading
Teen Services Opportunity: Teen 3 Apples Book Award
The 3 Apples Book Award Committee announced the 15 finalists for the first annual Teen 3 Apples Book Award, a New York State Teen’s Choice Award. This award is jointly sponsored by the Youth Services Section and the School Library Media Section of the New York Library Association.
Libraries can work with their teen advisory groups and reach out to teen users in grades 7-12 (ages 13 and up), even those that did not participate in the nomination process, to encourage participation in selecting the award. Teens are asked to read or listen to at least 3 of these nominated titles before the voting begins on January 1, 2008.
Teens across New York State have nominated the following titles:
