June 10, 2009toJune 12, 2009

The New York State Library Assistants Association (NYSLAA) will be holding its 2009 conference at Sage Colleges in Troy on June 10-12, 2009.  The conference will include 32 workshops on topics as diverse as copyright, story telling, stress management, and Web 2.0 and will also provide opportunities for library assistants to network with colleagues from around the state.

CDLC’s Capital Area Library Assistants group (CALA) will be the host organization.  CALA is responsible for local arrangements as well as for organizing the programs. CALA was formed in 1989 to facilitate professional development through programs produced by and for library support staff. The planning team is doing a wonderful job preparing for this conference!  You will find their names and contact information at the end of this message.

NYSLAA currently has about 450 members across the state.  Among the organization’s goals are enhancing the image and status of New York State’s library assistants, furthering their professional growth., and providing a network for communication about library and library assistant issues and trends.  Further information about NYSLAA can be found on their website at www.nyslaa.org.

This is the first time since 1991 that NYSLAA has held its annual conference in the Capital District.  I hope you will put this on your calendars and encourage the assistants in your library to take advantage of this great opportunity!  Watch for more information in the coming months.
