CPLA: Budget and Finance Workshop






Where: Saratoga Springs Public Library, Harry Dutcher Community Room

Gain the skills and knowledge to effectively manage all aspects of the library budget process, presented by Sandra Nelson.

At the end of the training program, participants will be able to assign budget responsibilities, describe the typical sources of library funding, identify typical budget categories, compare and contrast four types of budgets, prepare a program budget from a line-item budget, link the budget process to the library’s strategic planning priorities, develop performance measures and operations indicators for specific library services, complete a cost-benefit analysis, establish fiscal controls and manage their cash flow, evaluate sources of funding for a capital campaign, and develop an effective budget presentation.

Planning & Management of Buildings — Assessment Results

Participants of the September 2009 CPLA workshop, “Planning & Management of Buildings” presented by Cheryl Bryan, learned how to assess their current buildings and how to develop and implement building improvement projects.  As a result of this workshop and the current LSTA grant, library managers were asked to have three building assessment surveys filled out by a library staff member, a trustee, and a patron.  They were then asked to tell SALS how they implemented a change to their buildings based on the survey feedback.

Politics and Networking – Action Plan follow up

Participants of the September 2008 CPLA workshop, “Politics and Networking” presented by June Garcia and Sandra Nelson, learned how to understand their local political environment and how to develop and implement effective partnerships.  As a result of this workshop and the current LSTA grant, library managers were asked to tell SALS how they would plan to use the workshop skills and if they were able to implement a work plan.
