Explore methods to evaluate library programs that take you beyond attendance numbers and surveys. We’ll look at ways to gather meaningful feedback from both children and their caregivers. And finally, we’ll share ideas for how you can use the information you gather in your program evaluations. This is one in a series of webinars presented by the Managing Children’s Services Committee.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn to:
  • Choose evaluation methods that will lead to meaningful and useful feedback
  • Explore evaluation models from nonprofits, schools, and other spaces
  • Collect feedback not just from caregivers, but also directly from children
  • Use the information gathered to improve staff evaluations and to encourage staff to make meaningful changes to programming
  • Advocate for youth services using the feedback you collect

    Instructors

    Laura Koenig is the Team Leader for Children’s Services at the Boston Public Library’s Central Library. She is currently a member of the ALSC Managing Children’s Services Committee and the Massachusetts School Library Commission. Laura received an Honorable Mention from the Urban Libraries Council as an Innovator in Leading Learning in 2016 for her work on the Boston Public Library’s Pathway to Reading Sensory Wall.
    Amanda Yother is the librarian at Park View Elementary School in Cookeville, Tennessee. She is an active member in the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, and is a member of the Tennessee Library Association. Amanda was a recipient of the 2014 Penguin Young Readers Award and the 2015 Putnam County School System Make a Difference Award. Amanda is seriously passionate about early literacy, use of imagination, and having fun. When she is not in the library, she can be seen biking around town, reading in public places, and enjoying the company of her family and labradoodles.
